Listen!

It's a thin line between snow & rain.

  1. Two weeks ago we received a metre of snow over three days. Broke records. The snow fell in a relatively narrow band, so that we were able to bolster our own snow removal equipment with rigs from neighbouring cities to the east and west. Cost of clearing that much snow from a city of 350,000 people: $1 million. Didn't break the city's snow-removal budget but certainly put a dent in it, and all before winter officially started.

I think most people use snow tires over here with the exception of the west coast, which is usually milder. Wouldn't make much sense in your neck of the woods, but over here you're at a serious disadvantage without them.

Schadenfreude ... good word. Canadians love to go on about how bad the weather is. I guess that's more aptly described as taking pleasure in our own misfortune. ;)

  2. Us Brits talk about the weather all the time, but then again we seem to get a lot of it. It's the variety that does that.
I still can't make up my mind if i'd like to live in a country with a more settled climate, like Spain. I think i'd miss those distinct seasons. Well, sometimes anyway :)
