Maybe it's the result of a fretful disposition but I was thinking about the athletes who don't perform as well as expected or finish under a cloud. Who'd want to be the Canadian men's relay runner who stepped out of his lane, disqualifying his team from winning what they thought was a bronze medal; or the poor girl who dropped her ribbon during an otherwise stellar team rhythmic gymnastics routine. Or, less sympathetically, the athlete sent home for a racist "tweet" even before she had a chance to compete! To have years of preparation end this way must be heartbreaking.
