The Art Of Doing Nothing.

It's easier for some, than it is for others.

Here's a link to the video of mine that i mentioned:

  1. I'm not a fisherman but I've often suspected that fishing is one of those pretexts people use for doing nothing. Not so much fly fishing, which seems to involve a bit of work, but dangling your line off the edge of a pier or riverbank.

Bravo to you and your wife for allowing your children to decide how to use their free time. I feel very fortunate to have grown up similarly. How glorious it felt to have two months of unscheduled time each summer. I feel sorry for kids these days who have every moment spoken for.

I did ask to attend a cub-scout meeting once, since I had a playmate who was a cub. All I remember was crawling around the "den mother" on our hands and knees for several minutes and then paying 25 cents for the privilege. It didn't seem like much of a bargain and I felt not the slightest pang of jealousy the next time my friend went off to a meeting.

  2. Good point about the fishermen. I should think it's a very comtemplative pastime, so you could well be right.
I've seen children who seem to be forced into some of these activities, because the parents feel their kids should be doing them. Not because the kids themselves want to do it.
The poor kids never get any time to themselves.
