It's Like Punk Never Happened.

Have you noticed how many old Punk songs are being used in adverts these days?

Turning rebellion into money?

For some reason the audio decided to detach itself from the video & go out of synch part way through this vlog. I have no idea why. Sorry about that.

  1. Yes, I'm sure it's about demographics and target audience. As I know you know, music is such a powerful influence in many of our lives you can hardly blame advertisers for wanting to use it. Still, I hate having my memories and associations tampered with.

It's when I hear songs from the sixties used to advertise denture cream (You've Really Got a Hold on Me), incontinence briefs (I Can't Help Myself), laxatives (Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go), erectile dysfunction remedies (The Thrill Is Gone, A Hard Day's Night), cataract surgery (Purple Haze, I Can See For Miles), hearing aids (The Sounds of Silence) and mobility scooters (I Get Around, We Gotta Get Out of This Place) that I really start to get depressed.

  2. I think that's the problem? We're having our "memories and associations tampered with". Those songs just don't have the same effect on those who come later do they?
That list of songs makes for amusing, but disturbing reading :)
